When we say that reality surpasses fiction, we are probably selling ourselves short. Science fiction is a genre that provides a plausible backdrop to the story under the umbrella of science. Therefore, fiction always follows science, as it is science that provides the raw material necessary for the creation of an imaginary universe. From the time travel of Back to the Future to the biotechnology of Jurassic Park, all science fiction franchises apply, to a greater or lesser extent, theories that already exist in the scientific community.

Will humans be able to build spaceships capable of exceeding the speed of light? Is it possible to travel to the past? And to the future? Perhaps an iconic 20th-century German physicist can shed some light on these unknowns.
